 Darcia Ver. 2

Friday, January 4th, 2008

With some items that you make, sometimes you look at it and think “I really could do this better.” Hence, the advent of Darcia version 2. I was not happy with the way the wig turned out for my version 1, because the headpiece that the character wears is supposed to be this crazy mass of hair. So, I decided to re-think my approach as to what I should do.

The new wig, head piece combination weighs three pounds. The “strands” of hair are actually wefts of extensions glued to a wire base so that I could shape them into the “spider-leg” effect of the character. The mask was redone, and this time I painted the dark lines. I also re-did the cloak, this time making the collar and the trim better, and the shoulders as it should be. Below, is the results of dealing with all the things I didn’t like about verison 1.

 Olha (Ys VI)

Friday, January 4th, 2008

One the most popular game series from the early days, but barely saw the light of day in the US, is YS. First appearing on the PC Engine console, and making its way to the PC Duo, the game series follows the adventures of Adol. In the 6th incarnation of the series, one of the characters that Adol meets, is the young priestess Olha. This costume was a challenge, in that I appliqued on so many squares and triangles, I thought I would never see the end of it. And, this was the first time I attempted to fully dye a wig, since the characters hair color is a strange grey, purple, blue color. I had to create the custom color using the sharpie dye method, and deal with the constant tangling because of the length of the wig.

Worn to Kawaii Kon 2006 where I won Best Presentation.

 Young Kakashi

Friday, January 4th, 2008

I would say that it had been a long time sine I’ve seen an anime series, that I’ve gotten seriously addicted to. Then comes along a series called Naruto, with so many characters that you can just fall in love with, EVEN the baddies. Well, for this cosplay, I know that Kakashi, is an uber popular character, but being that I’m short, I had to find away of cosplaying the uber sexy badass, and get away with it, without looking stupid.

Along comes Kakashi Gaiden; an small arc in the Manga series, that explains how Kakashi came to obtain the Sharingan, and also his some what lazy ways. TADA! Young Kakashi! Im short enough to be him when he was 16 years of age!

Below is the full costume. The hardest part to make, was the shirt.

 Nausicaa

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

My next cosplay is from Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind. I still believe that this is the BEST Ghibli film ever made (Laputa coming in a close second). The entire costume is made of fleece (and boy was this hot to wear). The boots were the hardest to modify, and the “shells” that she wears, are actually painted floral holders. Worn at Kawaii Kon 2005

Thanks to Usagi-chan for the image
